How do you best load an X-D Picture card into an HP 7960 Photo smart printer?

When ever I try to load the card into the lower left side slot it doesn't seem to fit or want to go into the slot. Seems like the opening is not wide enough.

1. Make sure one is loading the xD card at the xD rather than sD or any other slot. According to HP, the 7960 supports xD cards except that the xD card cannot be larger than 256 MB. HP has provided a xD card loading document which is at the website below.
