Why does a laser jet printer take more than one sheet from the feeder some time?

I have a HP laserJet printer and some time when printing from the tray it takes extra sheets or the entire stack of paper.

1. That happens to me sometimes and I have found it is relative to the humidity
2. In the some trays you have separator pad to separate the paper when it is picked try cleaning it if this doesn't work you will have to replace it . In other types of tray there rollers again try to clean them or you will have to replace also when you take out the tray a look in where the tray was to see if any rollers in there that need cleaning/changing
