  1. does disc support 98se? if not visit HP site for a driver, maybe there
  2. most products, even though they say are compatable, are not compatable with early versions of Windows (mainly before the NT/2000 era) and since Win98's plug and play is a POS i am not suprised it doesnt work. try to buy an XP Home or XP Pro cd and update your Win98 (it has a feature where you can update and keep files rather than remove everything and start fresh). XP cd's will drop about 30-50% when vista comes out if you want to wait til then to use that printer :-D *also, you can try to find updated drivers on HP's website. they might also have drivers build for Win98
  3. win98 doesn't have the best USB support. There are USB to Parallel cables you can buy or if the printer has a parallel connector, get a cable for that instead.
  4. That printer should work, and below is the latest driver that they offer (be sure to follow the installation instructions/on-screen directions exactly): http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?product=439322&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&submit.y=0&submit.x=0&lang=en&cc=us
  5. have you been to www.hp.com and browsed for the drivers for your printer. get the latest drivers. DO NOT CONNECT YOUR PRINTER UNTIL THE SOFTWARE AND DRIVERS TELL YOU TOO.
  6. Firstly go through the manual to check that the software provided is compaitable with Win 98.Then go to settings -Control panel then remove the installed software for printer. Switch off the system connect the printer with the CPU. If prompted for disk after restart click have disk. If not go settings-add new hardware and follow the wizard. This might can solve your problem. Still if the software is not compatiable visit HP site to download the same.
  7. Hi Livenkat, Don't panic... just stay cool and exercise a little patience. You mentioned win98se OS with USB. Well, it's no news that the duo don't "work hand-in-glove" at most times. But you can try some old fashioned tweaks too. Why not check the following algorithms: * Check the USB connector on your board. Esure it snugs firmly in position. * Check that the cable is correctly connected to the printer as well as your computer. * If you've already installed the driver, uninstall it to prevent driver conflicts (from My Computer, goto Add/Remove Programs; then uninstall the HP Laser Jet 1022 Series printer driver by clicking the remove button). When you're done, power off the printer and reboot your system to save changes made to it. * After a few seconds, turn on your printer again in order to allow for an automatic hardware detection by your system. Keep your printer driver cd-rom handy. * Follow closely every on-screen instruction clicking a "next" or an "ok" button. Insert the driver cd-rom into the cd-rom drive and select the installation's recommended options. * Load up the printer with some A4 paper, and be ready to test-print a page. That's all I can figure out for now. Bye.
