Replace a 4-in-1 printer before we need to?

We bought an HP home computer system last month; the sales package included a new HP J5780 4-in-1 printer/fax/scanner/copier ($159 retail). Our old 4-in-1 PSC2210xi is still working fine and I slightly regret wasting money if we are replacing it unnecessarily. We have about $80 in 2 color and 2 black ink cartridges for the old one (still wrapped but the boxes are gone, so I doubt they can be returned) and of course they are a different size from the new one. According to HP customer service, the warranty period started as soon as we bought it and cannot be delayed by not opening the box. Options I have thought of: 1. keep the old one until it dies or the ink runs out, then open the new one, possibly after its warranty is up. 2. try to sell the old one with its cartridges at a small percent of its original cost and open the new one 3. give away the old one, try to sell the cartridges Vidyanand, do u mean they'll replace the cartridges even tho I bought them for a different printer?

  1. I personally own a J5780 all-in-one. It is a wonderful printer! I went through the same deal as you. I simply hooked the printers up to different computers and put them as shared printers on my network. This way I could use both. Sharing Printers is easy. You can even have both printers on one computer. I've attached the link. But If you don't like that idea i'd sell the old printer on ebay and get at least some kind of profit to pay off for the new one.
  2. To be honest with you I would hang onto the old printer. The cartridges are about 4X the capacity, and around the same price. The old printer is going to give you a better value and lower cost per page.
  3. Well, Your PSC 2210 uses 56(black) , 57(tricolor), 58 (Photo Color). You new printer has 74, 75, 99 respectively. So.. They dont suite. We have a way to resolve the issue. You call HP Tech support with 2210 printer's serial number. Tell them that u got new HP printer for which the cartridges don't suite. They will provide an address. If u mail the old ink cartridges, they will send the suitable cartridge for new printer. If they say no, ask the techie to transfer the call to "Case Manager". They will help you. 4. Well, I have 3 printers hooked up to my PC (I know, silly me), one for text, it's an old printer, and an all in one( new) for scanning and copying, and a photo printer just for photos. If you can't return the ink, you need to use it as it will eventually dry up.
