What is the best way to print wirelessly from a Dell laptop with built-in wireless card to a HP 8150N printer?

The LaserJet printer was bought used. The laptop is stand-alone. No local network at all. Currently accessing internet via DSL modem attached to a LinkSys wireless router. This LaserJet (8150) has a built in network card (JetDirect) with an ethernet port. I'm wondering if it might be possible to take an ethernet cable straight from the back of the wireless router to this port on the printer and then print wirelessly without getting a wireless print server. Any thoughts? Thanks.

  1. You have to share the printer. This makes it availble for anyone on your network. You can do this by doing the following: Open control panel, open Printers and Faxes, right click on the printer ikon, select sharing, then select the "Share this Printer" radial button, give the printer a name or accept the default. The printer is now available on your network. The computer that it's attached to has to be on so you can print.
  2. Linksys Print Servers lets you share a single printer over the network. The Print Server would plug into you existing router and the Printer into you Print Server. The laptop can now print Wireless. If you like to use your Print Server Wireless (ie . If you dont like to run a cable between the Router and the Print Server) opt for a Wireless Print Server. Model Numbers : Wired Print Server : PSUS4 Wireless Print Server : WPS54G, WPS54GU2 Call 1-800-546-5797 for more information.
