What is the difference between digital cameras and traditional cameras ?which kind do you like better?

Public Comments

  1. better mega pixels in the digital cameras obuvasally
  2. digital don't use film and digital because you don't have to develop film and pay to have it done its just plug and go
  3. I would think that would be self evident. One uses film to capture the image and the other uses a light sensitive sensor. The images produced by film have a unique look and many new users of digital cameras like to try and emulate those subtle features. There are even add-on programs you can buy that work in Photoshop and try to emulate the grain and colour characteristics unique to film
  4. I've used film cameras since the 1970s. I think value for money digital cameras are better. I rarely use one, just getting old. Digital cameras are so forgiving making photo taking for everyone. Film cameras you had to visualize what the picture looked like before you pushed the shutter button. I shot semi professional, knowing how f-stop, shutter speed, film speed and existing light affects the photo was needed. Digital you can just enjoy. So what you have, what you use is better. I think the only thing that makes a huge difference is when you have a really good picture on photo paper. Maybe it's me but some film produced warmer skin tones and better color saturation, I liked Fuji Film. Things have changed though.
  5. I take it that by 'traditional cameras,' you mean film cameras? Digital cameras are mostly electronic, expensive, cheaply made, live short lives, have little dynamic range, are designed to be used in various auto modes moreso than proper full manual, consume massive amounts of electricity and contain several very toxic elements such as lead, mercury and lithium but they allow for instant preview of images and a chemical-free workflow. Film cameras are mostly mechanical, cheap or expensive, cheaply made or exquisitely constructed, live long lives for decades in most cases, have very wide dynamic range (well, the film does, not the camera,) are designed to be used in various manual modes and can be dedicated to proper full manual, consume very little electricity and do not contain any toxic elements but they require chemical processing of film and therefore do not allow for instant preview (aside from instant film.) Digital cameras deliver reasonable quality more easily and more quickly. Film cameras deliver superior quality with more effort and time. Which one is "better" can only be determined by what your purpose is.
