HP Laserjet 5550 printer error "Unable to store job at printer"?

This error only occurs when a user tries to print multiple copies of large documents (about 20 pages or more). Mopier mode is disabled, advanced printing features disabled, The printer has a 256mb DIMM and 32MB of on board memory. There are no stored jobs on this printer. For some reason when I attempted to print 2 copies of a 20 page document on a windows 7 machine it worked (the errors are consistent on the windows xp machine, but it hasn't been restarted since troubleshooting). I did notice that some of the other print jobs that were unsuccessful were duplex jobs. Is there any solution to this problem? Alright. Here's another thing to note. I turned back on the mopier, hard disk, and ram disk. It works like it shoud in windows 7, duplex and all. I will go to the windows xp machine and check the print driver that is being used. The windows 7 machine is using the PCL 5 Problem solved. Just performed a firmware upgrade and used the PCL 6 driver. Problem solved. Just performed a firmware upgrade and used the PCL 6 driver.

  1. It's been a few years since I've worked with HP printers but...have you checked your port settings to ensure printer spooling isn't on (could be a memory problem on the printer end). Also, try turning on the Raw print setting. Sorry i can't help more...
