HP printers and annoying high-pitched sound interference?

I have an HP photosmart C4150 and I can't even leave it plugged in, cause the sound it emits it so annoying, a high-pitched whine. I can barely hear it, but I also have recording equipment on my computer which picks up the annoying interference. I've also had this problem with other HP printers. Any solutions other than physically unplugging (not just turning off) the printer when it's not in use?
