Should I update HP on my new laptop?

I'm paranoid over the high failure rate of HP laptops that I read about online. Someone wrote that they (+ other companies) build into the chips when to fail or something like that. My new HP laptop is telling me to update some HP stuff and other things. Is it safe or should I just not update my laptop since it's running just fine?

1. Building a "when to fail" program into the chip is bad for the company, so they wouldn't even think of doing something like that. So don't be worried, just update the HP stuff and you will be fine.
2. they do not build auto failure in to chips... HPs fail a lot cause HP uses cheap crappy parts to make their computers cheaper to sell. updating your HP software may not provide any benefit to you but it shouldn't hurt either.
