how do you select on a HP photo smart printer the selection for envelope printing?

also, how do you enter the envelope into the feeder tray? is it possible for sure to do this on an HP photo smart printer? any help appreciated. why when i tried to print it my printer said it was printing it ,,but just ran it through..and still showed it was printing after? Do you have to select a special feature on the software controls or a special type of sized print or paper? what is A4 paper size? (maybe this is it?)
