Does HP printers still work even if the Cartridges are empty ??

Well, I mean if the color cartridge is empty will the printer still print in black.. (HP c4280 - c4240) ?????

4. Usually not. I have 2 HP d135's, anytime one cartridge is empty, it will not allow the printer to print to prevent damage.
5. My colour cartridge has been indicating its "Low" for over a year!...and it still works!...however...my car's fuel gauge indicated it was "Low"!...and I came to a spluttering halt!...somebody is lying?...
