HP Universal printer drivers?
I got two different hp printers, so rather than installing two different drivers I decided to download hp ‘universal printer driver PCL5’. After installing I tried to print but it didn’t work. It was asking me printer IP address. I believe it only ask IP address when I want to use the printer through a network (wireless). Then I searched on Google and I found that I need to set the software on USB mode but I couldn’t because there is no icon that it says change to usb mode. Can anyone please explain how to use the hp universal printer driver? And one more thing, if I want to use this universal driver through a network, do I have to do anything or change anything? Thank you ps. I downloaded the software from the following website, http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/DriverDownload.jsp?prodNameId=4157320&locale=en_US&taskId=135&prodTypeId=18972&prodSeriesId=503548

- As long as you've downloaded the correct driver for the version of OS you have (i.e. XP, Vista, 7, etc.) then you should be good. IP addresses are used for network connections, either wired or wireless. If you don't have a network or wireless connection, then you are probably using a USB cable. In the printer's properties Port settings setup, you should find a USB port labeled as a USB or DOT type name that you can use. There is no "USB Mode" per-se, but an actual port name that you have to select and setup. To use the driver for a network, it shouldn't be a problem, it just has to be installed on each computer on the network that wants to use the printer and then setup to access the network printer using it's IP address or Host Name. You can usually get both if you print out a configuration page from the printer.
