I have a hp printer, I downloaded the disc and I have my printer pluged in why will it not work?

I have power to my printer, but when I go to print a window pops up and tells me that I need to save it but it still won't print for me.

3. It happens to me too sometimes. You have to choose the printer option. Go to options or settings or something like that. After you figure it out and use it a couple times it will rember. Some else will help us out here. It is no more than a couple clicks. I know it is frustrating, but very easy to fix.
4. Disconnect the printer. Run the install CD. Turn the computer off. Plug the printer in. Turn computer on. You will get a new hardware detected prompt. Follow the instructions to install the software from the CD. Set the printer as default. Note: this sequence may be out of order. But you should get the gist. Follow the instructions that came with the disc.
5. go to this website to download the software for your printer http://www.hp.com/country/us/en/support.html select download drivers and software and put the exact name of printer that you have. your printer should be working after you download the software.
6. My question is how did you download the disc? I need to do the same with my HP but I could not find the program online to download.
7. **********THIS IS THE FIX************ I have power to my printer, but when I go to print a window pops up and tells me that I need to save it but it still won't print for me. When you hit "print" in whatever program it is , the printer box comes up that asks how many copys you would like and what not. In that box is a small check box that reads "Print this document to a file". You have that box checked. What happens is you hit print and it prints it to a new file rather then printing it out. You need to get back to that screen and un-check the box. I guarantee you that is the prob. I have seen it 100 times before

9. uninstall the printer software plug the printer in and wait for windows to find it , you will then be promted for the disc /drivers if does not work insatll the software and when the software program starts searching for the printer switch it on also make sure you have at least 128mb of spare memory on your pc or you will have problems (lexmark needs this to work)
