Does anyone know about HP printers?

Do you know about HP Deskjet 2140 multifunction printers? I recently upgraded my computer system and my HP software downloaded just fine. I can print and copy with no problem, but in order to scan ANYTHING I have to go through My Control Panel to get the job done. I am UNABLE to go through my HP Solutions Centre site or use the Scan button on the printer. When I try to adjust the settings for my scanner, it will not let me enter in a destination folder, so that option remains blank. But if I go through my computer and reset these settings for each scan, the job will get done. HP support has been no help at all as I did purchase the printer from a friend and it has no warranty. I did try removing and reinstalling the software three times with no success. The software and ALL functions on the deskjet 2140 DID WORK every time on my old computer. I've had this new computer in the shop to have it thoroughly checked out for ANY problems and it's completely clean and secure. So does anyone have any suggestions as to why I cannot enter in a destination folder for my scans? The drop down text comes away blank for ANY type of file I choose, and for ANY type of document/picture I choose. Remember, HP has been no help, computer techs guarantee me it's not the computer OR the printer, and I have reloaded the software, all to no avail. Any HELPFUL ideas, suggestions or information would be gratefully accepted.

The reboot is an important step to a proper installation. Then try it again.
