My HP Laptop will not start. The screen will not even turn on.?

Here's what happens when i press the power button. Within seconds of starting the DVD Drive starts to spin and then stop. The Fan then turns on for a few seconds and then stops suddenly. Then the computer just sits there without the hard drive spinning. All the lights to the drives and accessories are lit (DVD Drive, Mouse, Keyboard, And Card Reader) which is extremely unusual. This entire time the screen never displays anything. After about 30 seconds the computer restarts and the cycle starts again. I have tried pressing f12 on start up and trying everything i could think of to get at least the OS to load but i got nothing. I know this is a very strange situation but i really just need to get on the computer. I'm running Vista btw. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  1. The Pavilions 2000, 4000, and 9000 i believe are notorious for this problem. The first thing I would do would be connect it to an external monitor, if you can see the picture there, then the screen has a problem. IF you do not see anything, then the graphic card on the motherboard has a problem. What happens with these laptops is the graphic card unsolders from the motherboard because of the heat, thus causing it to not display anything. What I have done before for a VERY quick fix, [more of a diagnoses] a week max, is put it in the freezer for an hour. Sometime it works, sometimes it doesnt. There are alot of tutorials out there that claim to work, have never personally tried any, but worth a shot. Dante Rocha D.R. Computers Inc.
