Xerox Phaser 8550 Printer is producing inaccurate colour?
I've got some high res documents I need to print, but my xerox printer is doign a poor job getting the right colour. The colours its printing are much darker than they should be, and much less vibrant. Any suggestions?

- try a color calibration.
- That can be due to any number of reasons, though running a calibration is not one of the possibilities with this model. The Xerox Phaser 8550 printer is a solid ink printer & there are a few things that can affect the colors. Since I don't know all the details about your printer, I'll go over all the possibilities. If you're using non-Xerox ink sticks from a cheaper source, the ink sticks and colors are not as good a quality as the Xerox brand and can cause poor color reproduction & clogged print nozzles. Two methods to fix that. 1) You'd have to run all the old, non-Xerox ink out of the printer and replace it with the good Xerox ink, or 2) replace the printhead assy. The other possibility is if you haven't used the printer much, but left it on all the time without adding fresh ink to it reservoir to replenish the ink as it's used for prints, the ink will have basically been cooked too much from the heaters required to melt the ink into the liquid form that it uses to print, and the ink will become darker over time the more the printer is left on without being used to print. To fix that is the same as the other problem listed. 1) You'd have to run all the old, over-cooked Xerox ink out of the printer and replace it with the good Xerox ink, or 2) replace the printhead assy. The other possibility, and a fairly common one too, is that the monitor you're viewing the documents on is not properly calibrated and shows the colors to be brighter than they actually are when printed. The other possibility is that the color profile is missing or not the right one for the application you're using in the printer's color management setup within the printer driver on the computer. Here's a link for the available color profiles: http://www.support.xerox.com/support/phaser-8500-8550/downloads/enus.html You can also try adjusting the color using the Tek color correction adjustments. The TekColor correction options provide simulations of different color devices. Automatic is the default correction for general image processing. See the table in your User's Manual to determine what option you want to use.
