Do you have to have full ink cartridges in the Lexmark 2600 series all in one printer in order to scan?

Our ink cartridges are low and I'm trying to scan pictures. When I do this the exclamation marks next to the ink cartridge symbols on top of the printer flash and the printer will not scan. I have tried unplugging the printer and usb, reconnecting it, rebooting the computer and read the manual. I'm now trying to uninstall and reinstall the printer. Please Help!

  1. No, if you had no ink at all you could scan.
  2. Unfortunately, my friend, with most, if not all, modern day All-in-One Printers/Multi-function devices you DO need for all cartridges to be inserted, and for all cartridges to contain ink. I know that this sounds counter-intuitive, and I'm not sure why this is the case ... though I guess printer manufacturers would likely come up with some reason ... but, sadly, that's the way it is. Sorry.
