HP Pavillion Laptop Recommendation?

Yet, another technology problem with me. About a month ago, my laptop suddenly crashed to the ground, shattering it's LCD screen. The computer STILL functions, but the screen is completely shattered. We contacted Best Buy and they said that they do not fix screens in-store, and they would probably have to order parts if they wanted us to. They inquired in the price for the screen, and the price ranged from about $600-$700 to purchase, extra for shipping and handling, plus repair fees at the store. I was wondering if purchasing a new laptop would be more convenient, or repairing it. Should we take it in-store and have them repair it? Or contact HP to see if they can? Sadly, the warranty on the laptop expired 2 months before this happened.

1. I can`t understand that price for a screen, certainly not worth repairing at that price. I`m in UK, it cost my daughter £120 for a new screen, including fixing. This was at a small independent computer repair shop. Which model of Pavilion is it? This is an example of price for a screen from Ebay USA.
