If I'm looking for a very professional Nikon digital camera, what would be a recommendation?

If I'm looking for a very professional digital camera, probably not SLR, what would be a recommendation? I need something with a very GOOD macro setting. I'm pretty sure I'll be buying a Nikon, and I'm also curious about CoolPix. This camera I plan on using for artistic photos, so I'm searching for really nice quality - not a little rectangular box used to take pictures of the family BBQ, you know? hahaha. thanks for taking the time to read this.

  1. I would not limit myself to Nikon point and shoots, although I own a Nikon DSLR. Check out Website dpreview. Left side go to camera database. I might add Canon and Fuji make very good point and shoot cameras. Ya know Sara it would help all of us out if you mention how much you plan to spend.
  2. Do you want a professional camera, or don't you? A Coolpix is not a pro camera. A DSLR is. If you want a nice pocket camera that gives good pictures, there are several. I got my daughter the Canon SD 1200 IS and she loves it! It's easy to use and gives nice sharp pictures. http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&fcategoryid=145&modelid=18144
  3. Since you are looking for a pro camera you have to go with a DSLR. You can not get professional quality photos from a point and shoot. With that said you need to look at the Nikon D5000! Its a great camera for a pro and intermediate. you get 12.5 MP and a whole much more for just $1000 (with lens). Best thing about the Nikon's is they are instant on. You don't have to wait for the camera to "start up". You hit the on switch and take pictures.
  4. I would recommend Nikon Coolpix P90 - 12.1-megapixel resolution for photo-quality prints up to 16 x 20 inches - 24x optical wide-angle (35mm equivalent focal length: 26-624mm) Zoom-Nikkor ED glass lens - 3.0-inch Vari-Angle LCD and Electronic Viewfinder - Nikon's Smart Portrait System; Red-eye Fix, Face Priority AE and more http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001PKEJZQ?ie=UTF8&tag=bestdeals-y-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B001PKEJZQ Even you can consider this one Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ35 - 12.1-megapixel resolution - 27mm wide-angle Leica DC Vario-Elmarit lens; 18x optical zoom with POWER O.I.S. - HD movies with 1280 x 720-pixel resolution; AVCHD Lite format - 2.7-inch TFT LCD screen http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002IKLJU0?ie=UTF8&tag=bestdeals-y-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B002IKLJU0
