I've rehormatted it before and it only took a few hours at most but 13 hours and 45 minutes? Seems a bit long just to reformat edpecialy because I have used maybe 15 gb out of my 500. So any answers why its taking so long.

- This is the reason why HP sucks balls! ( get dell, it is waaaayyyyyy better )
- Don't listen to Amar he has no idea what he's talking about. Yes it is normal, when you reformat your computer it basically flushes everything out and rebuilds it from the ground up, so it's only natural that it takes a long time. Think of it as a house. The house has a structure on the outside holding it up and on the inside are the luxuries we use from day to day. Now imagine having to take out everything from the house, tearing it down, and rebuilding it back up. It's basically the same process. Just give it time, usually when I have to reformat I do it before bed time because it's usually done when I wake up.
- I just did a HP pavilion and it took 40 minutes. I also did a Dell XPS and it took 40 minutes. Yours shouldn't take near that long.
- I've had to reformat my desktop in the past and I have done it so that it started it at night shortly before going to bed so that it was done when I got up the next morning. I believe that it would all depend on the size of the hard drive and since you have stated that it is a 500gb hard drive it just might need to take that long. I would have to agree with Eddie
