The Dell 1600n Laser Printer?

Can anyone advise. A friend who has left for another country has given me his Dell 1600n Laser Multi-Function Printer, to replace an old inkjet which has just given up the ghost and I’m trying to figure out my best setup. Basically this is my setup. I have a Netgear DG824M router which sits in a spare room, it is connected to a telephone line in the room. I have a Dell Inspiron 510m laptop, pretty old I know but then it’s all that I need: it is mainly used in other parts of the house. I access the internet via two homeplugs, one connected to the router and one connected to the laptop. Anyway I’m trying to figure out if I attach another homeplug to the router and the printer will I be able to directly print from my laptop from say the living room, or will I have to continue to physically attach the laptop to the printer via a USB cable as I do now? All suggestions welcomed.

  1. Unless the printer was wireless capable I would have to say no. However you may be able to connect to it a dongle or independent router that has a USB so in picks up the signal from your laptop. As they say there are many ways to skin a cat!
