I went looking for a scanner yesterday and all the store had were the combination scanner?
and printer. HP was giving $50 off on any printer if you bought this combo. Did HP make a mistake in building the combo? I mean like since both (the printer and scanner) break at different times.

- nope, the price point for both technologies has gone down so much that it just makes sense to combine the two. It saves money both for you and the manufacturer. Even if a part on it breaks, HP has a great warranty or you could just buy another one and you would still be ahead.
- Stand alone scanners are availble. I am not a big fan of combination machines. The one listed below is available from major office box stores and costs less than $100. The combo machine waqs made/developed to lower production costs, save space for the end user. The problem with them is just like you stated. If one part breaks the whole machine is garbage. HP Scanjet G3010 Photo Scanner Exceptional photo and document scans. Photos, documents, slides, and negatives all look great scanned in 4800 x 9600 dpi resolution.
