  1. plug the printer in the usb port plug in the power supply, put the set-up disk in the CD-ROM drive & it set itself up.:)
  2. The model of your printer refers to "HP Deskjet D1520". Here is the webpage to your printer: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/product?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&product=3568533 I think the "make" of your printer may refer to the manufacturer. In your case, it's "HP". Here is what you need to do: (i) Go to http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&product=3568533& (ii) Select the OS your notebook is running. Is it Windows XP, Windows 7, etc. (iii) Expand "Driver", and download either the "HP Deskjet Full Feature Software and Drivers" or "HP Deskjet Basic Driver". If the "HP Deskjet Basic Driver" is available for your OS, then download this, rather than the full software. (iv) Install the driver. Restart your computer. (v) Plug your printer in your notebook. I assume you are trying to connect it via a USB cable. And, you are now done. No, you do not need the disk. The disk contains the same stuff that you'll be downloading.
