Refill color printer with only black ink?

I have an Epson R280 Color printer. The black ink is out but the other colors have a little left on them. My question is, when I fill it with Ink, can I fill the black one only(since it is the one which is out) and print only in black and white-when the color inks run out and the black one will obviously be almost full- or when one runs out I have to replace the whole set? (I am trying to economize as I am short on cash)

1. You should be able to replace the cartrige separately. Just be sure to check "Black Ink Only" in your print options - by default, black is actually printed using some color ink to make it look a bit better on the edges.

3. Yes you will have to replace them all as the run out, even if you only wish to print in black.
