Is it safe to charge an iPod Touch 2G with a HP Pocket PC charger?

Hi! I don't really know about these kind of stuff that well so I hope you guys can help (sorry the questions are a bit long haha): 1) I have just bought an iPod Touch 2G yesterday. I tried to charge it with an Ipod Nano charger (3rd Party) that I bought from Hong Kong a long time ago - it says something like "charger accessory not supported". I'm guessing it's because Hong Kong has different voltage output or maybe iPod Nano's charger is not compatible with Touch's? I'm a bit worry... even though it didn't work I have plugged it in for few minutes - if it is because of the different voltage would that do any damage to my iPod? 2) In the end I found a charger for my old HP Pocket PC that I bought a year ago - it is one of those wall charger/adapter that you plug in your USB cable to it to recharge your pda. I tried it on my iPod Touch (with the iPod's USB cable) and this time it actually worked. Would it be safe since it is not originally designed for iPods? The input on the charger says "100-240V~200mA 50-60Hz 12-17VA" and the output says "+5V = 1A". I don't know if this means it is safe to use with the iPod or not. Hope you guys can help! Thanks!

  1. 1. It's not the voltage, it's the plug. Apple actually changed the plug slightly on the ipod touch 2G, so that older chargers won't work with it. 2. That should be safe to use, as long as you use the USB cable that comes with the ipod. USB is a pretty universal standard, and it's getting power from the USB.
