Why are HP cooling air intake vents in the base of their laptops?

Why do the cretins who design HP laptops put the CPU air intake in the base of the laptop? Surely anyone with half a brain would not do that?

1. is your laptop overheating with that design/idea of HP ? my HP never overheats and fan is stable, sensors are good, even battery charging is accurate, never i remove my battery while using my laptop plug on the wall.. i use LINUX ubuntu on HP. works perfect..
