Similar printers HP 1209 & 1315. 1 rejected cartridge & 1 accepted.. thoughts on why?

A fellow gladly traded his HP 1209 for my Epson 440 printer because he kept getting error messages. Thinking I had gotten the much better of the deal w/a more multifunction printer, and knowing of a similar but updated printer on sale at Goodwill, I bought the HP 1315 to offer him instead. I checked the 1209 and on the 1st run it worked fine, then I got the cartridge error he mentioned. I checked which cartridge was causing the error by removing one at a time & watching the message.. I tried the "bad" cartridge in the other printer & it seems to accept it (though it's giving a paper error). I ordered another cartridge, and upon 2 trials w/the 1209 it's still being accepted (printer fixed! yeehaa). Thoughts on why one printer accepts the cartridge while the other one doesn't?

  1. It could be something to do with the electrical contact points between the cartridge and the printer. If they are dirty or not aligning just right, you can get errors. One printer may make the contacts a little better than the other one. It's great you got it to work. Best of luck.
