New hard drive for laptop?

My laptop hard drive is filling up quickly, which made me think I probably want to upgrade in the near future to a larger size (my current one is 320GB). You see, I'm a fairly heave iTunes user, with some HD tv shows and movies, and I also like to import my CDs using apple lossless, which results in pretty large file sizes. My question is, how much performance gain would i notice by going from 5400 RPM to 7200? Also, does any hard drive work with any laptop? The one I'm looking at is http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?sku=A2340540&cs=04&c=us&l=en&dgc=SS&cid=52102&lid=1342490. Would this work with my HP G60 laptop? I suppose I should also mention that I do some light gaming on my laptop, such as The Orange Box.

  1. you sound like you need alot of storage the 500gb should do you well how ever it is always handy and useful to have a back up of everything i suggest buying an external 1tb hard drive just incase something happens
  2. As long as your laptop has a SATA interface and not an IDE (PATA) interface the above will be o.k SATA has only been out for about 4 yrs for laptops. For laptops it has to be a 2.5" drive As far as speed is concerned transfer rate will be a little higher for the higher speed but doubt if you will notice much difference in the general running of the pc. P.S I have found one spec that says it is a SATA interface for a g60-125nr laptop
