How much RAM do I need to expand a HP Pavilion ze4200 laptop to 512 MB?

I got a HP Pavilion ze4200 laptop at a garage sale for $10 and was overjoyed to find that it works, however it had only 192 MB RAM. How much RAM do I need in order to get the laptop to recognize 512 MB?

  1. well more than likely thats just the build in ram, i would check this http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01961011&tmp_task=prodinfoCategory&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&lang=en&product=353949 since more than likely it will have 2 free ram slots, so you would install 2x 256mb sticks, or it might have 1.. 128mb.. so this will be removed to install 2x 256mb
  2. your old ram will be useless if you want to upgrade to 512mb. upgrading it 512mb, you need to buy 1 512mb ram or 2 256mb ram. but first you need to know what kind of ram it is. SDRAM or DDR..
  3. You have to do a couple things. 1. research your laptop and figure out how many sockets it has. 1 or 2. 2. You need to figure out how many are occupied. Sometimes they put in one 192mb stick and sometimes they put in 2 96mb sticks. 3. you need to research what kind of ram it takes. Sodim, ddr, ddr2. 4. You need to go to a website like kingston and look up your laptop. It will tell you what type of ram you need. The reason your doing this again is because they sometimes give you the wrong type. Safe then sorry. 5. buy it.
