I got a laptop (HP Compaq from 2003) as part of a scholarship award in November but I want to get a newer one soon with HP's student discount. Since I didn't pay for it I don't have a receipt. I now the laptop was ordered by the organization that gave it to me so I can't return it to a store. I still have the box it was shipped in with UPS's shipping info sticker and some sticker from HP with the product and serial codes. Does anyone know anything about HP's return policy on this kind of situation? If I send this laptop back to HP I know they won't give me a refund, which is fine because I'm hoping that maybe HP will give me a discount instead. If HP won't take I could just try to sell it to someone since it's still in very good condition. I guess what made me wonder if this will work is that a friend told me that when she returned her old iPod to the Apple store she got a good discount on a newer iPod. But i know iPods and laptops are different. = ) What do you think?
