how to do a back up before doing a recovery for Hp pavilion dv2000 laptop ?

I have Hp laptop its HP pavilion dv2000 and i want to do a recovery for it BUT I dont wanna lose my files and folders :/ i wanna do a back up . a guarantee back up

1. You could save all the folders and files on a cd and put it back in after the backup
2. Copy all of your word/Excel/pictures, any thing of importance, etc. to a flash drive, CD.'s or external hard drive for later use. This should be done on a regular schedule in case of a system crash or hard drive failure.
