How come my HP printer color cartridges still go down when i specifically clicked "black ink only"?

Is this suppose to happen? If not tell me how i can fix it. Thanks!

1. I have the same problem with the HP CM1312nfi mfp. I don't know how to stop it changing the percent but I can tell you how to keep printing when it says the cartridges are empty, for this model at least. Hopefully it will be be similar for your model. Go into the printer set up menu, select system set up, select print quality, select replace supplies and set as "overide out". You can then keep printing even though it says the cartride is empty. You don't need a printer cartridge reset chip....which I discovered after just buying some!
2. Most printer will automatically start "cleaning" itself after you turn on the power, cleaning process requires ink.
