Are you willing to pay more for a custom computer?

Hello, I am wondering if people like you are willing to pay more for a custom built computer, I am not talking dell computers, i am saying computers built by a small store where you can customize every part (from the case to the motherboard). Also: -do you think custom computers are more upgradeable? -do you worrie that you would not recieve the same support that you would from dell, hp, or acer? -do you want to know exactly whats in your computer -do you care if you get 800Mhz memory rather then 677Mhz memory? thanks for any answers.

  1. yes although you usually dont, if you weant a custom pc build it yourself i will always buy my parts form local pc shops so i know where there from most hardware comes with a 5 yr warrenty at least on it so no probs there and you will recieve a full copy not a crappy system restore disk of your OS custom pc's tend 2 be more upgradable as if you buy from dell their machines will onl acept a limited range of other hardware manufactures goods ie ram harddrive cd drive ... with a custom pc you can choose to pay only for what you will need ie if you dont have surround speakers why pay for a soundcard? same for gfx if you dont need one dont get 1 (you will need 1 for windows vista)
  2. HI, I'm not paying more because I build them myself. Actually custom build is cheaper, as you buying parts and they are much better than any company offers you. Yes they are more upgradeable no i don't, as I know what I build and I don't need there joke supports(did you ever used Dell support, phht) Yes I love to know whats in my putter and so must you. 677 is good one itself, but hey if you can afford 8800 geforce graphic card with more than 6xx mb's why badder buying 256mb card. If you like to have builded comp, contact me and I'll build it for you(they not more expansive, they are cheaper and better)
  3. Yes. I am guessing though that you are looking to start a business. You will have a very specific niche to cater to, primarily high end gamers. You won't be able to come in more than 10% higher than Dell/HP/etc. if you want to sell your stuff and then you will have to have something that distinguishes you from then... -do you think custom computers are more upgradeable? - Absolutely -do you worrie that you would not recieve the same support that you would from dell, hp, or acer? - Yes -do you want to know exactly whats in your computer - Not every component, but most. -do you care if you get 800Mhz memory rather then 677Mhz memory? - Yes, but is it a big concern, no.
  4. I am not sure its really worth it, and it is not convincing that you will get a better result because the performance interplay of components is actually far more complex that people would have you believe. For instance, when Digital produced its first RISC chips I was working in an IT company that did research on their performance. One of my colleagues measured that the performance did not rise with processor speed as it should - it stalled and even fell with increasing speed. The reason? Digital had not worked out properly how much cache to add, and the processor was becoming cache bound. And too much cache can be as bad as too little.
  5. Is this your way of drumming up business? If you are asking seriously to explore the concept of a small store - I offer my opinion: Unfortunately, the appeal will be only to a small percentage of the population who understand the terms. Most people are shopping by price. I used to build my share of computers as a part time thing for people - but found that it is tough competing with the $300-500 Dells, HP's, etc. I like your concept - a quality computer for a fair price - not sure about the general over all appeal. Suggestion: In conjunction with building computers - advertise spyware removal (at a reasonable price). The people in the town I live in - will not pay $80/hr. for spyware and virus removal - they set the machine at the curb and buy another one at Walmart for $300. Good luck with your endeavour.
  6. Actually a custom built computer has some advantages over a propriatary computer: Cheaper Easier to upgrade Higher quality components With that said to get these advantages you may have to build it yourself. You do not get the hands on tech support but most new computers do not need that level of support, after the computer is a couple of years old and you have a part fail is when you need the support. I want to know what is in my computer, the same as I like to know what is in my car, maybe I am finicky but I don't put generic brakes on my car(s) I always go for the best.... know what I mean? If you go custom and build your own computer you can go for the 800 or higher FSB, this gives you an upgrade path that a propriatary computer would no. Remember: a manufacture of computers is of the assumption that thier computer will be obsoleate in one year, you on the other hand want that computer to last at least three years if not longer, you want the upgrade path. Hope this helps, see my web site for info on custom built computers you can do yourself.
  7. Yes I would, to be honest I build my own pcs,but the idea of a computer store putting what I want on my pc is nice. I never buy already built pcs ,because for the same price you can build something faster and better. I think it would be nice to have a computer store that build custom pcs. I like building pcs ,but the idea of someone else doing the work sounds nice. The only thing that would make me think its not a great idea is the price of labor and parts. Am I getting a good prices on this custom build computer? Or would I better better off building my own?If you could offer low prices and great customer service. Then you got something going.
  8. I would if it have everything I need.
