Can I connect to my wireless printer from my wired connection?

My Canon MP620 is discoverable by all 4 laptops in my house but the one wired connection cannot detect it. The wired connection is to the same router that supplies the wireless network. I have the option to set the printer up via USB but I cannot move the desktop computer to the printer nor can I easily move the printer to the desktop.

  1. their is a usb printer cable in differrent sizes some up to 10 meters , just search in the market near you .
  2. Yes, from one of the computers that sees the printer, click on Start, Settings, Printers and Faxes. Right click the Canon MP620, left click Properties. Click on the Ports Tab and click the Configure Port button. Get the name or IP Address of the printer. Write it down. If it is an IP Address it will be something in the 192.168.1.1xx format. Where the xx is the next two numbers of the address. (If IP Address skip the next paragraph.) Open your router and go to the DHCP Clients page. Find the Canon MP620's name and write down the IP Address. Go to the desktop that you wish to connect to the printer. First, test to see if the machine can speak to the printer. Open and CMD prompt. Click Start, Run, type CMD, Click OK. A black CMD prompt screen should come up with the prompt. It doesn't matter what folder it is in. Type "CD\" without the quotes, press Enter. You should now be at the C:\> prompt. Type: ping 192.168.1.xxx press Enter. (The xx being the last number of the IP Address of the printer. In some cases the 3rd Octect may be a 0 (zero). Usually Wireless routers. So the Address may be 192.168.0.xxx If you get a reply that states 4 sent, 4 received, 0% loss, then your computer can talk to the printer with no problem. Type Exit then Enter to close this window. Next, click on Start, Settings, Printers and Faxes. Right click the blank part of the screen "Add Printer" or click Add a Printer in the upper left corner. (Have the CD with the drivers available.) Click Next on the first screen of the Add a Printer Wizard, Then on the second screen, uncheck the box that says Automatically Detect my Plug and Play Printer, but leave the Local Printer box checked, click Next. Click the Radio button that states, Create a New Port and select Standard TCP/IP Port from the pull down window. Click Next. Click Next again. In the Printer Name or IP Address box, type in the IP Address for your Canon MP620. It will autotype in the field below. The address should be the one you used the ping command on earlier. Click Next. The Printer Wizard should look for the printer on the network at that address. You will be asked to select your printer and install the drivers for it. You can select the Have Disk option if your printer is not listed under the Canon options to the left. (name brand on left, Canon, model on the right, MP620) If you don't see it, use the Have Disk option and insert your CD into the CD/DVD player. Then cancel the install if it autostarts. Using the Have Disk, point to the CD and select the drivers folder or the .inf file that matches the Canon printer. Click OK or Open to install the printer driver file. You may need to reboot but if given the option to make this your default printer and you want to use this to print most item, select yes to make it your default. Click yes to print a test page and check the printer. When you see the drivers flash by the screen as they install, it should send the test print to the printer. Good luck.
