HP Store Online

is this a good laptop?

alright i think ima get the dv6t from hp. these are all the details. •Espresso Black •Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit •Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo Processor T6600 (2.2GHz, 2MB L2 Cache, 800MHz FSB) •FREE Upgrade to 4GB DDR3 System Memory (2 Dimm) from 2GB DDR3 System Memory (2 Dimm) •FREE Upgrade to 320GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive with HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection •Intel(R) Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD •15.6" diagonal High Definition LED HP Brightview Widescreen Display (1366x768) •LightScribe SuperMulti 8X DVD+/-RW with Double Layer Support •Webcam Only •Wireless-G Card •No TV Tuner w/remote control •HP Color Matching Keyboard •6 Cell Lithium Ion Battery •No Modem •Microsoft(R) Office Home and Student 2007 •HP Home & Home Office Store in-box envelope the warranty is $200+ and office is $150. the warranty covers all accidents and stuff for 2 years and i think its worth it cuz a lot of lil kids are always running around in my house and im going to be carrying it alot to and from school. the total is going to be a lil over $1000 but i get a $150 rebate. also wats the difference between a wireless g card and a intel wireless n mini card. the n card is 25$ extra. i will be using wifi at my university. is there a dramatic difference or should i stick with the g card? whats a network router and what is ram? how much ram should i have? there's a coupon to save $200 available but only if the purchase is over $1200. i still have some wiggle room for the upgrades because with that coupon i found online, i could basically upgrade for the same price. any inputs would b greatly appreciated.

  1. Only if the network router is n also.
  2. yes it is,bcs nobody offers u microsoft office now.although that described about this intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo Processor T6600 (2.2GHz, 2MB L2 Cache, 800MHz FSB,is a good sign of good laptop. but try to locate for ram for same kind of laptop. bcs it will help to work faster and won't give u lot of headache in future.
  3. If you want something more performance oriented, up the processor to something with more L2 cache and get a hard drive that spins at 7200 RPM. If you're going to be using it for internet browsing and music, what you have is fine. N is the new wireless standard that is emerging. Longer distance and more throughput, however it is still in draft and subject to change. I don't think it's catching on as of yet. G once again is more than adequate.
  4. Thats a good laptop but $1000 seems like a rip for that laptop. Anyways i figure your not a gamer right? if not then your video card is fine which is used for graphics work and stuff. I'm not sure about wireless cards but i would think there isn't much difference between those 2 so i would just stick with the g card but if you want you can ask dell or something. A network router is what is used to connect your laptop to the internet. Your University probably has their own network router as well. Ram is short term memory of the computer or to put it simply "makes your computer go faster and lets you multi task better". 4 gigs of ram is good for most laptops and it says you get a free upgrade to 4 gigs so take that offer. If you can i would try to fit in a better processor for putting in a extra $200, (which better processors also make your computer go way faster so the better the processor, the way better the speed of your computer) In your case you have a intel core 2 duo laptop which is a very good processor and i would stick with it. but the speed of it it 2.2 GHz. The more Ghz the better so 2.6 Ghz would make your computer more faster than 2.2Ghz would for example. So if possible see if theres different upgrades of porcessors you can get. But only get intel core 2 processors, don't get any Pentium processors or Celeron because they are slower processors than Core 2.
  5. That's not bad, but if you use this coupon code: NBSC314243 on the dv6t quad edition: http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/shopping/computer_can_series.do?storeName=computer_store&category=notebooks&a1=Display+%28diagonal%29&v1=15.0%26quot%3B+-+16.9%26quot%3B&series_name=dv6tqe_series&jumpid=in_R329_prodexp/hhoslp/psg/notebooks/15.0%22_-_16.9%22/dv6tqe_series You'll have a substantially better computer for not too much more money. HP throws in the free upgrade to 3G of RAM, but 4 GB only costs an extra $20. They also give an upgrade to the 320 GB HD. Here are the total specs of the one I put together to match yours: * Espresso Black * Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit * Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-720QM Processor (1.6GHz, 6MB L2 Cache, 1333MHz FSB) * 50% OFF!! 4GB DDR3 System Memory (2 Dimm) * FREE Upgrade to 320GB 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive with HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection * 1GB Nvidia GeForce GT 230M * 15.6" diagonal High Definition LED HP Brightview Widescreen Display (1366x768) * LightScribe SuperMulti 8X DVD+/-RW with Double Layer Support * Webcam Only * Wireless-G Card * No TV Tuner w/remote control * HP Color Matching Keyboard * 6 Cell Lithium Ion Battery * No Modem * Microsoft(R) Works 9.0 * HP Home & Home Office Store in-box envelope $999.98 with the 2-year warranty, but that is without MS Office. You should see if your school has a discount for MS Office. I know the student edition of office only cost me $5 at my school. If your school doesn't have it, check to see what deals your college-aged friends and family might be able to get.
  6. First things first, go here: https://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/shopping/register_app.do And register for the HP Academy using your .edu email address your university gave you, you get 10% off any laptop you buy. After that, go here: http://store.digitalriver.com/servlet/ControllerServlet?Action=DisplayStudentHeroRegistrationPage&Env=BASE&Locale=en_US&SiteID=msshus&resid=jNvgpQoBAkYAAB5eHhgAAAAI&rests=1256099908260 And also register with your .edu e-mail address from your school. This is a deal that Microsoft does for college students where you get the best version of Office for only $60. Now you've saved at least $160 off your computer. I personally have been looking at that exact model you are considering, and it's brother the dv6t Quad. If you don't plan on doing any gaming, or picture/video editing then what you have picked out is fine. If you do want to do gaming, then get a processor that starts with "P" not "T," the one you have picked out is a "T" series (T6600) and those are quite inferior to the "P" series. Also get a hard drive that is 7200RPM instead of the 5400 RPM you have picked out. And get one of the graphic card upgrades they have. But it still wont perform very well for gaming so I suggest not getting if that is what you plan on using it for. And don't worry about the Wireless N card, your university most likely does not use that kind of wireless and so it is a waste of money. It would be more useful to you to get the Blue Tooth upgrade with the Wireless G card because then you could get a wireless mouse/keyboard
