HP Laser Jet 5P Printer problem?

I have a very old HP Laser Jet 5P printer here at work. I cannot get an upgrade printer. I recently had to replace the ink toner. When I printed out the page it would print blurry and would double print. I did a print test page. It was blurry and the paper has turned grey and on the back of the paper is grey also. The page also has white lines that run up and down the page. So my question is how do I fix this printer issue? I must have the printer to perform my job. There is nobody at my office except for me. Please help.

  1. Hi! To fix your printer, I'd recommend the following. 1. The most straightforward solution to try is to reinstall the software (brought in from your disc) a. When you brought your printer, you should have been supplied with a disc that installs software and the relevant drivers to work with this. b. When you insert your installation disc, if you've already installed the software before, I think that an option will pop up in the wizard to help uninstall the software and install it again. c. Then, follow the wizard to complete installation. 2. Updating your drivers. a. I've done a quick search online and found the link to install the drivers to your printer here: http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/DriverDownload.jsp?pnameOID=15013&locale=en_US&taskId=135&prodSeriesId=25481&prodTypeId=18972 b. Simply select your operating system and follow the download links. But, really, from the sounds of it, it doesn't seem like it's a software problem (if you can still use your application that you're sending output from, like Word, then it shouldn't be the software, or else some other anomalies would pop up). I'd get help from the professionals, either from HP or the local handyman. if there's something wrong with the components, then it's not something that we ordinary users can fix. But, just in case, try the above solutions first, and see how it goes. Good luck! Cheers, Baggio.
  2. Sounds like the drum wiper in the new cartridge is faulty. It's supposed to wipe the transfer roller clean after the toner has been transfered to the paper. If it isn't cleaning the transfer roller you'll get double printing and a grey haze from the waste toner which isn't being removed. The white lines are probably from small areas where the wiper *is* working. If the cartridge isn't too old I'd contact the supplier for a replacement. Regards, TH.
  3. That is a toner issue. THe toner you have is probably old and has developed a defect. Take the toner back with an example of the print.
