I have a digital camera (HP R847) and I want to try black and white photography. How do you do this?

  1. Honestly, B&W photographs are still best produced by using film. With that said, try using Photoshop Elements (or GIMP) and watching this tutorial: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1f6auNupB7o&feature=related
  2. Hi, I am not familiar with that camera model but if you have a look through your manual you may find that you have a setting for black and white photos. Be careful in using it however because if you forget to put it back on colour and take and important photo the colour is not recorded. As a professional photographer I always shoot in colour and then convert to black and white in photoshop. If you start with colour you can always drop out the colour but if you start in Black and White you cant get the colour back. Dropping the colour from a photo in photoshop is as easy as clicking the hue/saturation menu and then taking the saturation to -100 If you are interested, have a look at my website all the black and white photos on there were originally colour and have been converted: http://www.archerimagery.com.au
  3. For my Black and white I use a 4x5 large format view camera using sheet film. For digital - I don't.
