*sigh* HP TouchSmart tx2z or a Macbook?

Whelp, I've been looking at the HP TouchSmart tx2z and it seems pretty amazing to me. But, of course, my mind is contaminated by propaganda and I'm starting to think I should get a MacBook. So... HP TouchSmart tx2z or a MacBook? I'd pay 1.1K for a HP TouchSmart tx2z, and I'd prolly pay a bit over 1.2K for a standard MacBook. Here's my TouchSmart config: * Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit * AMD Turion(TM) X2 Ultra Dual-Core Mobile Processor ZM-85 (2.3GHz, 2MB L2 Cache) * 50% OFF!! 4GB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm) * 320GB 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive * ATI Radeon(TM) HD 3200 Graphics with 64MB Display Cache Memory * 12.1" diagonal WXGA High-Definition HP LED Widescreen (1280x800) with Integrated Touch-screen * LightScribe SuperMulti 8X DVD+/-RW with Double Layer Support * Webcam + Fingerprint Reader with HP Imprint Finish (Reaction) * Wireless-N Card with Bluetooth * HP Color Matching Keyboard * 6 Cell Lithium Ion Battery * Microsoft(R) Office Home and Student 2007 * HP Home & Home Office Store in-box envelope I'd be using the laptop for college. So the tablet would come in handy...but the MacBook is just so hawt, I wouldn't want to leave it out of my decision. That wouldn't be fair.

  1. It seems to be that the answer to your question will come down to the amount of money you are willing to spend, and how important tablet function is to you. If you are strapped for cash, then the TouchSmart would probably be the better deal. Keep in mind that you still have to pay for Microsoft Office (I will assume you need this, unless you plan to opt for a free alternative such as OpenOffice). That being said, specs-wise, you will be getting a larger hard drive and more RAM then the default Macbook Pro 13" (which again I will assume you are getting as the white Macbook is only $1000). However, the Macbook Pro does have a better processor and graphics card. To me, a fat better choice if you are considering a Macbook is to opt for the white one. Sure it's not as sexy (though that's objective), but you get a far better deal (specs-wise) than the Macbook Pro.
