There are no drivers out by HP for the Windows- 7 version. Is there any way that I can still print and scan without the HP software.

You should simply use the Vista drivers. They will work perfectly.
no, it won't work without the drivers coz the computer will not recognize the printer w/o it. just install the vista version of the drivers if you have it, it should work.

I Had the same problem. Try the windows vista drivers. If you dont have drivers or the wrong drivers it will print out random numbers and letters. Also try printing and scanning using windows 7,s Fax and Scan..
