why wont my HP printer read my flash drive?

i am using a 2gb usb to print photos through my hp photosmart printer. the pictures are on the usb but for whatever reason when i plug it into the printer, the photos show up on the printer as an error. they just show up as a circle and triangle shape. i am positive the usb works because i took it to the store and they were able to print the photos. i have unplugged the printer twice and nothing works. any ideas? it is NOT the flash drive because i have tried 2 seperate ones and neither work with my pritner. they worked yesterday and today they dont work.
