I want the best printer for doing pictures. I want to be able to do 3x5, 5x7, and 8x11 pictures. Is a laser the best for pictures. I really appreciate your help. Thank you very much!! If you have an answer like Gork's please spare me and keep it to yourself! I would appreciate some real help like the first couple of answers! Thanks

  1. I believe ink-jet is still better for photos. Laser is better for text that won't smudge and lower printing costs. Photo quality is catching up, but still can't compete at a reasonable price. Canon and HP seem to be the best ink-jets out there now. Go to Amazon.com and read some reviews to find the hits and the misses. All the brands have their mistakes from time to time... Photos from today's ink-jets really look incredible on the right paper, hard to tell it's not a lab print. The inks continue to get more fade resistant over time as well. The Canon PIXMA iP4700 looks pretty cool. I like the separate ink tanks that prevent waste and the separate pigmented black ink cartridge for text. My Canon is similar and has lasted longer than any other printer I've owned. It's over 5 years old and still works great! The photo quality on mine is stunning and there have been improvements in resolution and speed since. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16828102437&Tpk=Canon%20PIXMA%20iP4700 HP printers have also been getting great reviews lately, but I'm not as familiar with them. Epson was #1 for a long time, but I've been hearing not so much lately.
  2. Check this page out i think is great http://h30406.www3.hp.com/campaigns/2009/hho/photosmart/sites/en_us/index.html?jumpid=ex_r11400_us/en/hho/IPG/phototpg_olas/dm:_N5823.Myspace_%epid_%eaid_%ecid/#/products
  3. Some of the best printers cost $5,000 or more. I don't think you really mean the BEST printer, I think you mean a cheap one you can afford. probably anything you can get for $100 to $150 will work for you, but in strictest terms it is nowhere near the best, just cheap enough for you.
  4. for high resolution photos you definitely need an inkjet. Right now the best deal in a photo printer is the Epson Artisan 800 direct from epson.com for $130 after $170 instant rebate. It's a wireless copier/scanner/fax/photo printer with 6 individual ink cartridges for high photo quality. The best warranty in the industry. For two years, Epson will fedex a replacement and pick up the old one should you need it. If that's beyond your budget, the next best deal is the Workforce 500 at $50 from officemax. It's a copier/scanner/fax/printer with 4 ink cartridges. It's not wireless and the warranty is one year. http://www.officemax.com/catalog/sku.jsp?productId=prod1780008&history=pxpoqtz9|prodPage~15^freeText~workforce+500^paramValue~true^refine~1^region~1^param~return_skus^return_skus~Y Triple capacity ink cartridges are under $3 and you can get 11 free cartridges every month, as I've done for the past 6 months, at http://www.ccs-digital.com/freeink.asp
