a problem with a mac/windows network and getting a HP designjet 500 to work on all os's?

Our work network has 5 imacs (running mac os x 10.5.8) as well as having vmware fusion (win xp pro sp3) on all the macs, we use both regularly and regulary print to a HP Designjet 500 from both the mac and the win side and we're all connected through a 1 gig switch. The plotter is connected through usb to my mac and then shared for all the others to use.(if you need any more info let me know) My problem is that priting from the different os's can be tricky it seems. If its its normally shared on my mac os side, everybody can connect and print to the desighnjet from their mac side (as it should) but no one can print to it from the vmware side, but we can connect to the printer. The only way i've to let people print from the win side is to connect it to the virtual pc and share it in windows, but then the mac side refuses to print to it. I want to be able to just share it in just one location/os and then for everybody to able to print to it. I've tried just about everything and nothing seems to solve the problem and switching all the time clearly isn't practicle. I hope someone can help me here.
