Cold air intake for scion tC?

Hi have anyone used the cold air intake on a tC? I talked to the a salesperson at an auto parts supply store and he recommended the cold air intake. He said the K & N air filter alone won't increase any horse power but the cold air intake one would inscrease up to 5% like around 8 hp and it cost around $200. Would 8 hp makes a difference? Anyone has any experience with the cold air intake? Thanks.

  1. any cold air intake will not receive 8hp gains. maybe 4 at the most for better results, combine cold air intake with performance headers & high-flow cat & cat-back exhaust
  2. 8 HP doesn't make that much of a difference, but a cold air intake is healthier for your car regardless and gives an additional sound to your car. But usually the people who throw in CAI's are the one's who are doing full bolt-on's and other mods. It does make a difference, IF you plan to do more mods. It does NOT make a difference if you plan to just get a cold air intake and leave it at that. Some of these mods include : ceramic race headers, pulleys, etc... & like what he said, the exhaust. Although a Scion TC (especially if Automatic) cannot go much faster regardless. I recommend Injen Cold Air Intake over K&N, if that is available for Scion TC.
  3. First of all K&N is the best air filters in the world and yes it makes a HUUUGE difference in performance and economy. People who don't believe in the K&N's are people who haven't used them yet. I've put em in every car i've ever owned I'd never use another filter or intake
  4. a Scion tC is a car with serious Asthma, it needs to breath and exhaule better. one part doesnt make a difference but a compbonation of parts help. intake on a tC we'll say will give 6hp for example, add aftermarket header, s-pipe, cat back exhaust and an engine pulley that intake is now making 8-10hp because all those parts play a role together. now add camshafts and valve's, valve springs, valve retainers/keepes, and valve guides, you are now achieving more hp from that intake, plus, on top of what the other modifications are making. it works with all parts. same thing with header, say it give 7hp with everthing else the power adds up. if ou were to get all those mods it would be best to get new spark plugs and then get a tune because a tune may squeez out another 2-5hp. whether you feel it or not horsepower is horsepower.... but anyone that has the view or goal of putting a turbocharger on their car, buying an intake is worthless because it gets replaced, same with headers, gets replaced in a turbo kit. but if you stick naturally aspirated then by all means go for it, do let anyone tell you otherwise... by the way K&N is one of the best, i just dropped in a K&N FILTER replacment ONLY and there is better throttle response than before and a slighty increase in power, 2-4hp if anything, but i just got it for the heck of it since its cheaper than always buying a regular filter over and over.
  5. i agree with most of what unresolved said, though he went kinda off in a tangent with turbo's and n/a. basically, the answer for your question is no, 8 hp will not make a difference, but in most cases (for the tc) the intake, whether it be a CAI or just a regular one, should be considered more cosmetic than anything. by itself it doesn't do anything, honestly. sure, it lets the car breath better, but that doesn't really help with anything unless you are going to add on some more modifications to it. oh and btw, don't get it retuned for a n/a tc. it's a waste of money. minimal gain for lots of cost = not worth it for you. trust me. remember, there is also a difference between hp and whp. whp is what you want to know, since it's the power actually being put down to the ground.
