Can if I fill my colour printer cartridges with water will it think they're full?

I received a printer for free from a friend. It won't print because the colour cartridges are empty. I don't want to invest money in more colour ink, I just want to be able to print black in my bedroom (for essays, etc). So, if I fill the colour cartridges with water, will the printer think that they're full? I already have a syringe. I already have black ink in the printer. I'm not buying more colour ink, I don't need to print colour in my room. I just want to print black, but can't unless the printer thinks the colour cartridges are full.

  1. i think it'll just break the printer you could also buy just Black ink if u don't want to pay too much money on ink
  2. In many cases printers actually use some colors to create black and white print outs. I don't think there is any way around it -- you're going to have to buy color cartridges. Or you could try buying a refill kit and refilling the color yourself. Or, to save a few dollars, try buying compatible or remanufactured cartridges. These are 50-75% cheaper than originals.
