- We have 5 Samsung CLP-300 color lasers in our family. They're small, fast and sharp. You can find them for about $100 brand new, delivered. We bought our last for $96 off ebay. A set of 4 toners is $50 at http://www.ccs-digital.com We just replaced our first black after more than a year, so they do last for about 2,000 pages.
- It depends on how you qualify "good" and "great price". Laser printers have lagged behind colour inkjets in terms of print quality (particularly with photos) with the result that a $100 inkjet is likely to trounce a $500 laser in terms of photo print quality. The laser will win hands down on running costs though. At the same time, although colour lasers are much cheaper to buy than they were even five years ago they are still comparatively expensive. Personally I quite like the HP CP1515N which is quite good colour provided you are not comparing it to a six colour inkjet because really that is not a fair comparison. My own recommendation, for most users who do large amounts of bulk and text printing with only an occasional need for colour is to get two printers: a mono laser for most work and a colour inkjet when you really need it. Obviously this takes more space but the cost is likely to be similar to or less than a colour laser. You are also using each printer to its strengths. You get very good quality, cheap text output and bulk printing, and very high quality photo printing when you really need it.
- I am sure you have read other relpy's by now, but HP sells the highest quality or close to it at least. Watch out for which printer you do end up buying. Some replacement toner cartridges are very very very expensive. EnviroTone Imaging sells quality remannufactured toner for HP printers. They will give you the best price possible without sacrificing quality. email randall@envirotoneimaging.com
