My friend has just bought an HP laptop computer. Neither one of us are the smartest?

peanut in the bag, her daughter set it up, but it goes to logging off and just stays there, you can not do ANYTHING to it...what are we doing wrong????

1. Call HP tech support. Just get the number from hp.com. They usually make pretty good laptops. I love mine.

4. To force it to turn off, hold down the power key for around 8 seconds. Turn it on again, and make sure you turn it off using the correct close downnprocedure. If it is still the same, ask what programs have been installed since you received it. Remove these and try again. Do them one at a time so that if there is an improvement you will know which program is causing the hold up. If there is still no improvement, it may be possible that you have picked up a virus. In this instance browse the internet for user groups which can help with virus removal as they have dedicated experts to help with eradicating viruses. You should of course have an up to date virus checker running and a firewall. If your ISP is BT, this all comes with option 2 or 3, but you do have to download and install it yourself. Virgin have a similar setup as I suppose most ISPs do
