Is there a Dell or HP laptop computer that is $500-$700 and looks like a $900-$1,200 laptop computer?

I am going to be buying a Dell or HP laptop computer and im a little short on cash. I need a laptop for my personal use and professional use, and I really want to impress my buddies. But I can really afford a $500-$700 computer. Can anyone help me with my question?

1. i am confused by the idea of guys who are supposedly smart enough to differentiate the caste of your computer on sight, but dumb enough to think that the immediately apparent performance, or components for that matter, would be underplayed by the shiny exterior. that said, i'd get a very compact netbook, they are both cool and cheap.
2. Buy Dell Latitude and HP Elitebook by going to the business link in their websites. They expensive so you might have to buy them at their lowest specs but atleast they'll impress your friends, that is if they've ever seen a premium model before.
