Laptops - Compaq vs. Dell/HP?

What do you think about Compaq laptops? I really need a laptop asap and I see a Compaq for $349. Problem is I don't want to buy a lemon. Should I just wait until Christmas time to purchase a Dell or HP when they might be on sale? That way I can continue to save my money. What would you do? I was also thinking of buying the Compaq now and saving for a Dell or HP and then I can have two and sell/give the Compaq to my little sister. I currently have a Dell desktop with the Dell printer, scanner, copier.

4. I always recommend HP's. I've used everything from compaq, dell, gateway, apple, and HP, and the one that always worked the best is HP, it's the only brand I use now.

12. I hear HPs are decent and everyone I know that has one likes it. I will never buy a Dell ever again. I had a brand new one. After about four months of having it, it died. I bought it in to be fixed and they said it wasn't worth it because the motherboard, hard drive, and basically everything else in the computer crashed. Sadly, I've heard the same thing happened to three others I've talked to. Mine was the worst (theirs lasted longer than four months) but still died way too early than they should have. I like Toshibas myself. I've never had any problems with them. But like I said, most of my friends with HPs like them. Compaq used to be terrible, but I've heard that they've gotten a lot better over the years. I don't really know anyone with a new compaq to really give you any information on them though. 13. compaq's are inexpensive for a reason, i've had a desktop and it sucked. i would definitely go for an HP
14. I've got an HP Pavilion Entertainment PC..and it's a really good machine. My brother the tech geek selected it..he has a Dell and my dad has a Compaq (also selected by my brother). we've had an Acer and an E-MachineDesktop as well..I'd say the HP and Dells have been the best.
