Why won't my Brother 2170w printer work with Windows Vista?

I recently purchased a new computer running 32 bit windows vista and a brother 2170w laser printer. It says that the driver is being installed correctly, and windows says that it is there. then when I try to print, the printer isn't listed. I've tried having windows search for a new printer and every time that I do, the program stops responding. How can I make my new printer work with my new computer?

1. Make sure you're not hooking the USB cable up before the software is installed. Otherwise Windows will attempt to install "default" drivers in it's place, then the CD drivers just conflict and you never get a true printer install. Download PC Decrapifier and completely uninstall the printer etc. Then run the CD again and follow the step accordingly before hooking up the USB cable.
