How to align monitor color to printer's color?

The colors of the pictures that I printed out look differently than on the monitor. Can someone please tell me how to align the colors of the monitor to those of the printers? I edit my pictures on photoshop elements 6 and then copy them to Microsoft word. Then I printed them out on HP printer. Thank you very much for your help.

  1. The professionals pay a lot of money to do this. It is not something that can be done easily by hand, if at all. If it is important to you then you can by colourimeters that will calibrate your monitor to a standard colour space, like the sRGB standard. More expensive ones will calibrate your printer too. However, for home user systems do not expect perfect results, I have calibrated two different laptop displays (which are notoriously poor) and ended up with significantly different images afterwards. However, they were a lot closer than when they started. Monitors need to be recalibrated when the ambient light changes, as they warm up and every few days even if all other conditions stay the same. Printers need to be recalibrated whenever you change inks or paper.
